Town Crier Staff Report

Mountain View High's boys basketball team dropped its first Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division contest, 40-39 to Fremont, but stayed atop the league with a 51-41 victory over Cupertino last Friday.

Jason Davalos had a team-high 13 points and Seth Greenstein, Jason Bull and Milo Lewis all had eight in the Cupertino win. The Spartans are 6-1 in league play.

Los Altos also split a pair of games last week, winning 55-46 over Gunn and losing 58-47 to first-place Los Gatos. The Eagles are 4-3 in the SCVAL De Anza Division. Tamar Jones led Los Altos with 22 points against Los Gatos and 19 in the Gunn game.

And St. Francis remains in first place in the West Catholic Athletic League after wins over Riordan (76-48) and Sacred Heart Cathedral (65-56 in OT). Tops for the Lancers, 7-1 in league, was Senque Carey with a combined 57 points in the two games. Corey Blick, Charles Tharp and Pat Yaeger also played well for St. Francis.

GIRLS SOCCER: Los Altos got goals from seven different players in its 3-0 win over Palo Alto and 6-1 trouncing of Monta Vista last week. Leading the scoring charge were Katherine Dunwoodie, Kasey Clark, Cyndee Williams, Lea Jaeger, Becky Remmel, Lauren Miller and Kristin Slausen.

Dunwoodie, Miller and Clark also contributed assists for the Eagles, who are 7-1 in the SCVAL De Anza Division.

Mountain View gave Los Gatos a tough time and tied the score at 1-1 on a Shelly Nyrhila early second-half goal, but lost 2-1. Unfortunately for the Spartans (3-4 league) Los Gatos scored the winner after defender Jamie Mikkelsen exited the game with a broken wrist.

Nyrhila tallied her 11th goal of the season, Lora Southard had two and Kendra Kittoe chipped in one in Mountain View's 4-1 win over Homestead last Thursday.

Over at Pinewood, Kapri Merrill scored twice against Mercy Burlingame to even the score at 2-2 and secure a tie, but the Panthers lost 4-0 to Castilleja and 3-1 to Notre Dame-San Jose. Maggie Koshland scored for Pinewood (3-8-1 league) in the Notre Dame match.

BOYS SOCCER: Dan Vukosa scored twice and Matthew Bocchino added one in St. Francis' 3-0 win over Riordan. But a 1-0 loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral dropped the Lancers to 5-4-1 in the WCAL.

Los Altos and Mountain View both finished the week winless, registering several losses and ties. Justin Usher scored for Los Altos (2-3-3 in the SCVAL De Anza Division) and Alan Henley and Galen Donaldson tallied for Mountain View (0-4-4).
