History House crab feed

The Los Altos History House presents its 10th annual crab feed and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Hillview Community Center social hall, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. with the auction to follow. Tickets are $35.

Asian New Year in Mountain View

Mountain View's eighth annual Asian New Year Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View to welcome the year of the Ox.

The parade will feature a 125 -foot dragon, "Heart's Delight Golden Dragon." Lion dancers, the St. Mary Bell and Drum Corps and Color guards from the Naval Air Reserve and California Air National Guard will also be in the parade.

Art, music, dancing at Valentine party

The Los Altos Community Foundation is sponsoring a Los Altos Heart of the Community Valentine Party beginning 7:30 p.m., Feb. 15, at the Los Altos Golf and Country Club.

This first annual event features music and dancing, buffet dining, and a silent art auction of mixed media works based on love and hearts donated by 50 Los Altos artists.

Artwork sales will benefit neighborhood mediation services, leadership classes and the Bus Barn Theater Company.

Black tie is optional. Tickets are $50 per person. For tickets or more information, call 949-5908.

Docents needed at History House

The Los Altos History House needs docents to teach visitors about the 1930s era and the history of Los Altos. Docents would work one day out of every two months on either Wednesday or Saturday afternoons.

Those interested in teaching and helping preserve local history can call Museum Coordinator Amie Heath at 948-9427 or 948-1491, ext. 126.

Volunteer opportunities are also available working with the collections.

Weekly bag of food for low-income seniors

Low income Los Altos and Los Altos Hills resident seniors may be eligible to receive a weekly bag of groceries for $10 a year.

If you are 60 years of age or older, or if you are disabled and 55 years of age or older, you can qualify by calling Second Harvest Food Bank at (408) 266-8950 or contact Community Services Agency at 968-0836.

Widows and Widowers Association

The Mid-Peninsula Widows and Widowers Association meets 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday at the Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460, S. El Monte Ave., Los Altos. The MPWWA helps people begin a new life following the death of a spouse. All widows and widowers of the area are invited to attend.

CSA seeks help for needy seniors

The Community Services Agency of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View needs volunteers in a Senior Outreach Service program.

Volunteers provide assistance with activities of daily living to seniors in their homes.

Opportunities include brown bag drivers (must be available Tuesdays 9 a.m. to noon), escorted transportation drivers, in-home volunteers (grocery shopping and light house cleaning), and socialization support (assistance in reading).

American Legion meeting at Elks

American Legion Fremont Post 52 meets every Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Palo Alto Elks Lodge on El Camino Real in Palo Alto.

The organization focuses on supporting disabled veterans at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto.

Foothill Stamp Club open to collectors

All persons interested in stamp collecting as a hobby may join the Foothill Stamp Club, which regularly meets 7:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of the month on the second floor of Great Western Bank, 199 Main St. in Los Altos.

Los Altos Rotaract Club recruits new members

The Los Altos Rotaract Club, a community service group sponsored by the Los Altos Rotary Club and Rotary International, is seeking career-minded individuals between the ages of 18-35 as new members.

Through club programs, business meetings and service projects, members can develop personal and professional skills.

Rotaract meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of Great Western Bank, 199 Main St., in Los Altos.

Local food kitchen needs volunteers

The Community Services Agency needs volunteers to help in the food and clothes closets and in its community kitchen. The agency needs people to help from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursdays.

The kitchen serves 80 hot meals four evenings a week. Shifts are from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The Los Altos History House Museum is offering an opportunity to exhibit personal collections. If you are a collector of historic objects or fine art, the History House invites you to share your collection through as exhibit at the museum.

Senior exemptions from utility tax

If you are a senior citizen living in the City of Los Altos, you may be eligible for exemption from the utility user taxes found on your gas, electric, telephone, cable television, and water bills.

Basic requirements for exemption require you to be age 65 or over, reside in a household where the gross annual income of all residents does not exceed $25,200 annually. For more information, call 948-1491.
