Dear Jean: Our friends are moving out of the area. Our next door neighbor of 37 years is moving to Arizona, my tax man is moving to Oregon, and several of our very good pals are moving to more remote lower-maintenance homes in lower-socioeconomic villages in California. Local hams hold disaster drill at Rancho San Antonio

The objective was to contact hams in as many other such locations as possible during a 24-hour period, between 11 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. "Field Day," as the hams call it, is a competition as well as a serious practice for emergency communication skills and equipment used during disaster situations (such as the next large earthquake).
